Η θεωρία της Μεγάλης Έκρηξης περιγράφει την εξέλιξη του Σύμπαντος από μια εξαιρετικά πρώιμη φάση και μετά, αλλά δεν εξηγεί:

Alan Guth, one of the founders of inflationary cosmology, openly acknowledges something often overlooked:
the impressive title “Big Bang” hides a theory that avoids the most fundamental questions.
The Big Bang theory describes the evolution of the Universe after an extremely early moment, but it does not explain:
what actually “banged”,
why it happened,
what — if anything — existed before.
In other words, the theory begins its description after the Universe is already underway.
The “initial event” itself remains unexplained.
Despite its grand name, the Big Bang is more a model of cosmic evolution than an explanation of origins.
Even Guth himself admits it:
the theory explains surprisingly little about the Big Bang itself.
