28 April 1693
On this day in 1693 Leibniz wrote to L'Hôpital announcing his discovery of determinants 50yrs before Cramer (the real driving force in development of determinants). Leibniz's work had little or no influence - it was not published until 1850 in his Mathematische Schriften.
